CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots swept a non-conference double-header in Clarksville, Arkansas against the Universtiy of the Ozarks 5-1 and 8-5 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Scots (19-17) scored three times in the first inning of the first game and behind the pitching of
Ayden Heitmann, went on to win 5-1.Â
Braden Hendrix singled up the middle with one out in the top of the first inning.
Jayden Cull walked and
Logan Doody singled to left field to load the bases.
Caleb Collins hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Hendrix and
Garrett Graef doubled to left field to bring in Cull and Doody for a 3-0 lead.
Lyon College picked up two more runs in the top of the fourth inning when Collins led off with a walk, Graef singled to center and
Ashton Compton put down a sacrifice bunt. Lane Vangennip reached on a fielder's choice that Collins scored on and
Logan Lightner singled up the middle to bring in Graef to make it a 5-0 Scots lead.
The University of the Ozarks added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.Â
Heitmann pitched seven innings and allowed only one run off of seven hits and three walks.Â
In the second game, Lyon trailed 5-0 through the first four innings, put scratched out a run in the top of the fifth inning Graef was hit by a pitch to lead off. Vangennip was hit by a pitch and
Kooper McCoy was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lightner hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Graef.
The Scots broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning. Cull started off with a base hit to center field. With one out, Cull advanced to second on a balk and Collins was hit by a pitch. Vangennip singled to right field to load the bases and McCoy hit a triple to the left-center field wall to bring in Cull, Collins and Vangennip.Â
After another pitching change from Ozarks, Lightner walked,
Walker Smith singled to left center to score McCoy and tie the game, then Hendrix doubled to the left side to bring in Lightner. Cull singled to center field and Hendrix scored with Smith to make it 8-5 before another pitching change from Ozarks.
Ethan Hopkins came in to pitch the bottom of the sixth and the seventh innings.
David Jennings got the win for the Scots.Â
