BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots baseball team swept the Principia Panthers in SLIAC action at Fred Wann Field in Batesville on a cloudy Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (21-17 and 13-3) remain in second place in the conference standings after defeating the Panthers 6-2 and 10-0.
In the first game,
Garrett Graef doubled down the left field line to bring in
Caleb Collins,
Braden Hendrix and
Walker Smith to give Lyon College a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
Principia scored a run in the second inning, but the Scots added two more in the bottom of the third inning when Graef grounded into a double-play, but
Jayden Cull scored on the play. Lane Vangennip singled to second base and
Logan Doody scored to make it 5-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, Collins put down a bunt single to bring in
Gavin Caldwell for a 6-1 lead.
Patrick Babcock pitched 4.1 innings and allowed one hit, one run and had six strike outs.Â
Rhett Crafton came to pitch 4.2 innings and allowed only one run.Â
In the second game, Doddy flied out to left field for a sacrifice to bring in Smith to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.Â
Caldwell hit a sacrifice to right field to bring in Graef in the bottom of the second inning to put the Scots up 2-0.
In the bottom of the third,
Ashton Compton doubled to left-center that scored Doody and Cull for a 4-0 Lyon College lead.Â
In the fourth, Doody grounded into a double-play, but Smith scored, thenCollins reached on a error that allowed Hendrix to score for a 6-0 Scots lead.
Doody grounded out to the short stop to bring in Smith again, Collins singled up the middle to score Hendrix, Compton singled to center field to bring in Collins and Caldwell walked with the bases loaded to bring in Graef and make it a 10-0 Lyon College lead in teh bottom of the sixth inning.
Cameron Gordon went the distance for the Scots on the mound. He pitched seven full innings of shut out baseball, allowing only two hits to go with three strike outs.
