Lyon College softball splits double-header with Greenville University

BATESVILLE, Arkansas -The Lyon College softball Scots split a SLIAC double-header with the Greenville Panthers on Saturday afternoon at Howard and Mary House Field.

The Scots (14-15, 7-6) lost the first game 5-0 and won the second game 7-6.

Lyon could only muster one hit in the first game losing in shutout fashion, striking out nine times.  Olivia Orf broke up a no-hit bid with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs. Sophie Varela and Trinity Arrambide walked in the game.

In the second contest, the Scots took advantage of five Greenville errors to come back and win 7-6.
Greenville held a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning. With one out in the bottom of the third, Jada King singled to left field and Varela got a base hit. Voth singled and King scored on an error to make it 4-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Arrambide walked and Georgia Holzer singled through the right side and with two outs, Holzer stole second and Arrambide stole third and scored off a bad throw to make it 4-2.

The Scots scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. With one out, Chloe McCance reached first on an error and stole second. Orf doubled through the right side to the fence and McCance scored. Arrambide singled and she and Orf advanced a base on an overthrow. Skylar Foreman doubled and Orf scored. Holzer followed with a single and Arrambide scored then Jayce Holder was hit by a pitch and King singled to the right field and it brought in Foreman and Holzer for a 7-4 lead. 

Greenville hit a 2-run homer in the top of the sixth to close the Scots lead to one run. 

Lyon will take on Ecclesia on Sunday in a non-conference double-header beginning at 1 p.m.
