Scots baseall sweeps Blackburn College

CARLINVILLE, Illinois - Logan Lightner hit a solo home run in a 5-1 Lyon College win over Blacakburn College in the first game of a double-header and Cameron Gordon struck out nine batters in a shut out 6-0 win for the Scots over the Beavers in the second game on Saturday afternoon in Carlinville.

The Scots (15-16, 11-3) trailed 1-0 to Blackburn in the first game until the top of the third inning when Lyon scored four times. With one out, Walker Smith singled to right field and Braden Hendirx followed with a base hit to center field. Jayden Cull walked to load the bases and that set up a single for Logan Doody to right center that scored Smith and Hendrix. 
Caleb Collins hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Cull and Doody scored when Ashton Compton singled to left center to make it a 4-1 Scots lead.

Lightner led off the top of the fourth inning with a solo homer to make it 5-1. Smith walked, Hendrix singled and Cull got a base hit, but Smith was out at home on the play to end another scoring threat from the Scots.

In the second game, the Scots scored three times in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Collins walked, Garrett Graef singled to left field and Compton singled to left to load the bases. Lane Vangennip reached on a fielder's choice for a RBI that scored Collins. Vangennip stole second then Lightner reached on an error and went to second, while Graef and Vangennip scored on the the play. Lightner later scored on a wild pitch.

In the seventh inning, Smith was hit by a pitch, Hendrix beat out an infield hit and Cull was hit by a pitch. Doody walked to bring in Smith and with one out, Graef hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in Hendrix to make it 5-0. Compton reached on an error and Cullwas thrown out at home to end the inning.

Lyon added another run in the top of the ninth inning when Cull led off with a base hit to left. Doody Singled and Collins reached on an error. Graef walked and Cull scored. 

The two teams are scheduled to play a non-conference double-header on Sunday beginning at noon.
