PARAGOULD, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots softball team split a double-header in Paragould against the Crowley's Ridge Pioneers on Tuesday afternoon.

The Scots (7-7) lost the first game 8-5 and came back to win the second game 7-5.

In the first game, Anna Voth beat out an infield single with one out , then Whitney Mitchell reached first on an error and both she and Voth tried to steal up a base, but Voth was caught at third base for the second out. Olivia Orf drew a walk and Trinity Arrambide singled to center field to score Mitchell for a 1-0 Lyon College lead. 

Crowley's Ridge came back to tie the game in the bottom of the first, but Lyon took the lead again in the top of the third inning when Sophie Varela got a lead-off walk and moved to second when Voth put down a sacrifice bunt. Varela went to third base when Mitchell grounded out to the third baseman and she scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.

The Scots turned a double-play in the bottom of the third inning, but in the bottom of the fourth, the Pioneers banged out six runs on four hits to take a 7-2 lead. Crowley's Ridge added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead by six runs, 8-2. 

Lyon College rallied in the top of the seventh when McKenzie Campbell singled to left field, Skylar Foreman singled to center field. Christina Jeter came in to pinch-run for Foreman and Georgia Holzer pinch hit for Emily Martinez. Holzer delivered a double to left center and scored Campbell. M.K. Duffield singled to right field and scored Jeter and Jada King came in to pinch run for Duffield. Varela singled to right field and Holzer scored to make it 8-5 with no outs, but that's how it ended with the next three batters getting out.

In the second game, Orf had a double in the top of the first inning, but was left stranded on base. Holzer walked in the top of the second inning, however in the top of the third, Yasmin Corralejo reached on an error, Varela walked and Voth singled to center to load the bases. With one out, Arrambide reached on a fielder's choice that got Voth out at second, but she picked up an run batted in when Corralejo scored on the play to make it a 1-0 Scots lead. 

After Crowley's Ridge tied the game in the bottom of the third, Foreman hit a one-out single to center field. Brianna Morquecho came in to pinch run for her and Campbell singled to center field. Corralejo grounded out to third base, but both runners advanced. Varela singled to center field to bring in Morquecho for a 2-1 lead for Lyon.

Crowley's Ridge scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. 
In the top of the fifth, though, Orf led off with a single to right field, Arrambide beat out a single to third base. With one out, Duffield singled to right center and Orf scored. Mitchell came in to pinch run for Duffield and stole second base. Foreman drove a hit to right field and scored Arrambide and Mitchell to tie the game at 5-5, but Foreman was out at second on the play. 

The Scots took the lead in the top of the sixth inning when Varela walked and stole second. She advanced to third on an error by the catcher, then Voth singled to center field to score Varela. Voth stole second and went to third on a ground out, then scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.
