BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots softball team split a double-header with the University of the Ozarks Eagles on Saturday afternoon, losing the first game 2-1 and winning the second game 4-1, at Howard and Mary House Field.
The Scots (6-6) had the lead in the first game 1-0 after 
Whitney Mitchell reached first on an error and 
Sophie Varela scored an unearned run. The Eagles tied the game in the top of the third inning and took the lead in the top of the seventh.
Lyon College had only four hits in the first game. Varela and Mitchell had one each, while 
Olivia Orf had two hits in three at-bats. Seven runners were left on base by the Scots.
Chloe McCance took the mound for Lyon College to start the day and only allowed one hit in the top of the first inning. Varela tripled to right center  for the first at-bat of the game for the Scots. Mitchell made it to first on a throwing error by the Ozark third baseman and Varela scored. Mitchell stole second and went to third on a wild pitch before the inning came to an end with Lyon leading 1-0.
In the bottom of the second, Orf reached on an error, M.K. Duffield was hit by a pitch, but a double-play cut the lead runners down and a strikeout ended the potential threat. 
Varela led off with a walk in the bottom of the third and 
Anna Voth hit a sacrifice to move Varela over to second, but when she rounded second, she was picked off. Mitchell followed that with a single to left field and a fly out to center field ended another threat.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, McCance walked and Orf doubled her to third base. However, two strike outs  and a pop fly left them standing in scoring position . 
The Scots went three up and three down in the fifth inning, but in the bottom of the sixth, Orf singled to center field with two outs. 
Skylar Foreman walked, but a strike out ended the inning.
After Ozarks took a 2-1 lead in the seventh, the Scots went down in order to end the game. 
Lyon College started with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and held on to win 4-1 behind the pitching of 
McKenzie Campbell, who had six. 
Varela led off with a double to start the first inning of the second game. She stole third base and Voth reached first on an error that scored Varela. Mitchell put down a bunt-single, then both runners moved up a base on a double-steal. Orf reached first on an error to load the bases and with one, McCance hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Voth. Foreman singled down the right field line to bring in Mitchell and send Orf to third, but  an infield pop-fly ended the inning with the Scots up 3-0.
Jada King led off the bottom of the second inning for the Scots with a double to the centerfield gap. With one out, Voth singled King to third base, but  a strikeout and a fly out to right field stopped the action.
Trinity Arrambide led off the bottom of the third inning with a single. Foreman doubled to right field with two outs, but a two ground outs ended the threat by Lyon College. 
With two outs, Mitchell hit a triple to right center field and scored when Orf singled to left field to make it 4-0. Arrambide got a single, but a fly out ended the inning after both runners had moved up on a wild pitch to occupy second and third in scoring position. 
Ozarks scored a single run in the top of the sixth inning and threatened to put up more runs, but a pop out left runners on second and third bases. And the same thing happened in the top of the seventh to end the game.
