PENSACOLA, Florida - The Lyon College Scots baseball team is in Pensacola, Florida this weekend for the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge.
The Scots (3-10) played the Wisconsin-Platte Pioneers (3-7) on a sunny Friday afternoon at Pensacola Beach. Lyon College threw ace
Patrick Babcock, who struck out two Pioneers in the first inning.
In the top of the second inning,
Kooper McCoy reached on an error by the Platte pitcher and eventually scored on a sacrifice by Logan Lighter for a 1-0 lead.
For the next two innings, Babcock picked up a strike out in each of the second and third innings. He struck out the side in the fourth. Offensively, Caleb Collings got a base hit and
Braden Hendrix was hit by a pitch in the top of the third inning, but both were left stranded on base.
Logan Doody, who was the only Scot to have multiple hits in the game, singled with one out, but never was able to advance.
Walker Smith got a base hit in the top of the fifth inning, but was also left on base.Â
Doody singled again in the top of the seventh inning and moved over to second before the inning ended and in the top of the eighth inning, the Scots put another run.
Smith walked, then
Ashton Compton singled him to third base. Hendrix laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring in Smith for a 2-0 lead.Â
Platte came back to score two runs in the bottom of the eight to tie the game and in the bottom of the ninth, scored a run with a lead off double, a hit batsman and an throwing error.
The Scots will be in action again on Saturday against Birmingham Southern College at 3 p.m.
