CARLINVILLE, Illinois - The Lyon College Scots were upset on Saturday afternoon 91-88 in double-overtime at Blackburn College.
The Scots (13-7, 10-4) was led in scoring by
Nikola SaSaroga with 23 points.
Frank Toney scored 17 points,
Israel Palmer added 16 points,
Malik Madison added 10 points,
Kylon McCullough had nine points,
Trenton Bell scored eight points and
John Paul Morgan had five points.Â
The Scots led 34-27 at halftime, but Blackburn came back to tie the game at 70-70 by the end of regulation play. It was 78-78 by the end of the first overtime.
Lyon fell behind 8-1 early in the game before McCullough made a three-pointer. Madison and Palmer scored, then Toney made two free throws to give the Scots the lead 10-8. Palmer made a jumper, SaSaroga scored three times in a row and Madison had a dunk to make it 19-15 with 7:57 to play in the first half.Â
Bell made a three-pointer and Madison got another dunk. Bell made a jump shot, then SaSaroga scored four baskets in a row to keep the Scots in front 34-27.
Toney and McCullough scored early in the second half and Toney added two free throws, then McCullough made two jumpers in a row before Palmer put in a basket for a 13-point Lyon College lead with 16:31 to go in the second half, 46-33.Â
Toney made four straight free throws, Bell made a three-pointer, Palmer made two free throws, but Blackburn closed to within one point, 55-54 with 7:21 to go. Morgan made a three-pointer, SaSaroga scored inside, Toney made two free throws and SaSaroga scored again, but Blackburn took the lead 67-64 with 1:48 left.Â
SaSaroga got a dunk and put in a layup, then Morgan put in a layup with 16 seconds left to tie the game at 70-70. Blackburn tried a three-pointer, but it was blocked by SaSaroga.
Madison made a layup, SaSaroga made a free throw, Palmer made a free throw and Toney hit a jump shot with 16 seconds left in overtime to get the Scots to within two points, With 11 seconds on the clock, Palmer made two free throws to make it 78-78. Blackburn missed a layup with three seconds to go.
Madison got a dunk, Toney made a free throw and got a jump shot to fall, but Blackburn moved out to an 87-83 lead with 32 seconds left. Palmer made a jumper and a three-pointer to get the Scots to within one point with 19 seconds to go, 89-88. Blackburn made two free throws and Palmer missed a three-pointer with two seconds left.Â
