Scots baseball falls in third game against Crusaders

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College baseball Scots lost to the University of Dallas Crusaders 13-9 on Sunday afternoon at Fred Wann Field in Batesville.

The Scots (0-6) trailed 13-2 and scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to get closer, but couldn't get the bat power in the bottom of the ninth. Lyon College had nine runs on eight hits, struck out 12 times and left 10 men on base.

Patrick Babcock started the game on the mound for the Scots and went five innings, allowed three hits, one earned run, walked two and struck out five Dallas batters. Connor Taylor came into relieve him and gave up two runs, walked one and hit a batter with a pitch. Ian Jackson came in for an inning and allowed two hits, three runs, one walk, had two strike outs and hit one batter. After that,Blair Francis pitched to two batters and gave up two hits and two runs, Colton Williams came in for one-third of an inning and gave up two hits, three runs, walked one and struck out one. Logan Lightner came on from his second base position to pitch two-third of an inning. He allowed three hits, one run and one walk. Brayden Anderson pitched for an inning and allowed one hit, one run and had one strikeout. David Jennings finished out the game on the mound for Lyon and had a strike out in one inning pitched.

Dallas led 1-0 in the top of the third inning on a lead-off solo homer. The Scots tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kooper McCoy reached on an error with one out and went to second base on a passed ball. McCoy went to third on another passed ball and scored when Ashton Compton singled up the middle. 

Lyon took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Braden Hendrix led off with a double to right center and went to third base on a passed ball. Anderson put down a sacrifice squeeze bunt and Hendrix scored.

Dallas came back in the sixth inning to hit a 3-run homer and lead 4-2. The Crusaders scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning and led 11-2. 

The Scots started threatening in the bottom of the seventh when Hendrix led off with a walk, Jayden Cull was hit by a pitch and Logan Doody walked to load the bases with two outs. 

Dallas added two more runs in the top of the eighth to go up 13-2. Lyon College came roaring back with a seven-run bottom of the eighth. Walker Smith singled to center field to lead off the bottom half of the inning, Compton followed with a single, then Colton Will walked to load the bases and Tyler Whitfield walked to bring in Smith. Cull doubled to right center to bring in Compton and Will, then Doody singled to left field to score Whitfield. Lightner walked, Smith was hit by a pitch and Cull scored to make it 13-7. Compton singled through the right side to score Lightner and Doody and make it a four-run game, 13-9.

In the Scots half of the ninth inning, Thomas Lingren was hit by a pitch with no outs, but was left at first base.
