Trinity Arrambide singled in the bottom of the seventh inning to score
Whitney Mitchell from third base to lead the Lyon College Scots over the Crowley's Ridge Pioneers 6-5 in Game 2 of a double-header on Saturday afternoon at Howard and Mary House Field in walk-off fashion.
The Scots (1-1) trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning and with one out, Sophie Valera walked.
Anna Voth singled to center field, then Mitchell doubled to left field to bring in both Valera and Voth to tie the game. MK Duffield was hit by a pitch and Ashely Abel walked to load the bases for Lyon and set up the game-winning hit from Arrambide.
Before that, Crowley's Ridge led 4-0 with four runs in the top of the third inning. The Scots came back to get a run on the board in the bottom half of the inning when
Olivia Orf walked, Jada King reached on a bunt single.
Savannah Lee walked to load the bases and Valera hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring in Orf. King was out at third on the play, which made the score 4-1.
Lyon added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning when King led off with a single to center field. With one out, Valera got a base hit to center field, both runners stole up a base and a throwing error on the play allowed King to score, but Valera was out at third.
The Scots added another run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Duffield walked and her pinch runner
Brianna Morquecho stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher. Abel walked and Arrambide hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Morquecho, cutting Crowley's lead to one run, 4-3.
Chloe McCance picked up the win from the mound for the Scots with 4.1 innings pitched and only one run allowed.
Sydney Lasher started the game and was relieved in the third inning.
The Scots lost the first game to the Pioneers 5-3. Crowley's Ridge led 1-0 in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom half of the inning, Duffield hit a sacrifice grounder to second base that scored Voth from third and tie the game 1-1. Arrambide singled to center field to bring in Mitchell and Lee got a base hit to score Arrambide for a 3-1 Lyon College lead.
The Pioneers put up three runs in the seventh inning put them back up 5-3.
Lyon College had four hits in the game. Mitchell got two of the hits in Game 1, Arrambide and Lee complete the Scots hitting attack.
McKenzie Campbell absorbed the loss. She pitched seven innings, gave up six hits, five runs, walked three and struck out one.
