BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The University of Dubuque scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on to defeat the Lyon College Scots 7-4 at Fred Wann Field on Friday afternoon.
The Scots (0-3) were led by
Logan Lightner with three hits in the game and one run batted in.
Thomas Lingren and
Jayden Cull both had two hits, with Lingren getting a RBI.
Kooper McCoy,
Garrett Graef,
Grant Yates and
Braden Hendrix all had hits in the game. Kooper, Lingren, Cull and
Gavin Caldwell scored for the Scots.
Dubuque took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning off a 2-run homer, but the Lyon College came back to tie the game in the bottom of the second inning when Hendrix hit a sacrifice ground out that scored Lingren, who had a lead-off double down the right field line. Cull doubled to right-center to advance Lingrin to third before Hendrix hit his sacrifice.  Yates singled up the middle to score Cull to make it 2-2.
The Scots took the lead in the bottom of the third inning when Lingren singled to center field and scored McCoy, who doubled down the left field line with two outs, to make it 3-2. In the bottom of the fourth, Lightner singled through the right side to score Caldwell, who had reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base, to give Lyon College a 4-2 lead.Â
Dubuque had a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning and tied the game in the top of the sixth inning on a passed ball. The Spartans added three more runs thanks in part to another 2-run homer in the top of the seventh inning.
