Lyon College women's basketball loses at Westminster 102-92

FULTON, Missouri - The Lyon College women's basketball team dropped a 102-92 decision against the Westminster Blue Jays on Thursday night in SLIAC action in Fulton, Missouri. 

The Scots (15-9, 10-7) got 27 points from Natalya Kaza. Stella Parker scored 16 points, Allison Byars added 13 points, Savanna Lopez had 10 points, Zharia Childress added eight points, Samantha Taylor and Brooklyn Rowe had seven points each, while Alexis Soloman an Kayla Richarsdon had one basket each.

Rowe hit an early three-pointer to put the Scots up 5-4, but Westminster led 12-5 until Taylor put in a basket. Childress added score in the paint, but the Blue Jays advanced their lead to 19-9 before two free throws from Kaza. Parker and Richardson scored, then Childress put in a basket and Parker scored again, but Westminster led 29-19. Parker and Childress scored again, but the Blue Jays led 33-23 after one quarter.

Byars made a layup at the 7:52 mark of the second period for the Scots' first basket, 42-25. Rowe scored on a jumper, Kaza made two free throws, Parker added one from the line, then Parker made two free throws, Taylor made a steal and a layup. Kaza and Lopez scored and Taylor closed out the half with two free throws, but Lyon trailed 55-40.

Taylor scored in the third quarter to open it up for Lyon College, but Westminster moved out to a 20-point lead, 62-42. Parker put in a layup, Byars made a jumper, Lopez three times in a row, then Kaza scored the next three baskets for the Scots, but the Blue Jays led 81-58.

The Scots trailed by as much as 27 points to start the fourth quarter, 85-58. Taylor started a rally for Lyon with a free throw, Kaza made two free throws and completed a three-point play, Childress hit a basket and Kaza scored again to close the gap to 89-68. Kaza scored twice, Byars added a free throw, Parker hit a jump shot, Soloman scored and Parker made a three-pointer to make it 96-80 with 2:08 to go. 
Byars made two three-pointers in a row, then put in a layup and Kaza made two free throws to cut the lead to 10 pointes with 37 seconds to play, 100-90. Rowe added two more free throws for the Scots to keep the game at 10 points.
