BATESVILLE, Arkansas - Savanna Lopz scored 26 points and
Zharia Childress added 20 points to lead the Lyon College Scots by the visiting Spalding University Golden Eagles 98-73 on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (15-8, 10-6) also got 13 points from
Samantha Taylor, who set a SLIAC record this season in steals with 115 so far (the Lyon College record for steals is 123 in a season).
Natalya Kaza scored 11 points,
Brooklyn Rowen had nine points, while
Stella Parker had seven points and in her final home appearance on Senior Day,
Kayla Richardson started and stepped up for seven points.
Allison Byars added five points and had 11 assists.
Lopez scored the first six points for Lyon to begin the game. Taylor added two free throws, before Lopez scored again for a 10-7 lead. Spalding came back to lead 11-10, but Rowe made a three-pointer and Childress scored twice in a row. Byars put in a layup off a fast-break and completed the three-point play with a free throw. Taylor made a layup inside, then Lopez finished out the quarter with the next three baskets for the Scots, who led 28-17.
Childress scored three times in a row, Lopez made a jumper and Byars scored for a 38-25 lead at the 6:21 mark. Lopez put in a jump shot, then Parker, Taylor and Childress scored. Parker made a three-pointer, Childress hit inside for two baskets in a row and Lopez completed a three-point play with 2:18 to play before halftime to make it 56-31. Lopez made another three-point play with 1:03 to go for a 59-35 Scots' lead.
Richardson started the third quarter with her first basket. Kaza scored two times in a row and Taylor made a three-pointer for a 28-point lead for the Scots, 68-40. Childress put in two free throws, made steal and layup, Taylor put in a jumper and Kaza scored inside for a 76-51 Lyon College lead by the end of the third quarter.
Kaza made a three-pointer to start the fourth quarter for the Scots, Lopez put in a jumper and Kaza scored again for an 85-51 lead with 8:32 to go in the game. Rowe made two three-pointers in a row, Parker got a basket, then Richardson put a jumper and stepped out for a three-pointer with 38 seconds left.
