Byars' double-double leads to Scots SLIAC win over Eureka College

EUREKA, Illinois - Allison Byars scored 19 points, seven assists, six steals and had 11 rebounds to lead the Lyon College Scots past the Eureka Red Devils 102-48 on Thursday night at the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena in Eureka, Illinois. 

The Scots (13-7, 8-5) also got 19 points and four steals from Natalya Kaza. Samantha Taylor had 17 points, five steals and six assists, Brooklyn Rowe had 13 points, Savanna Lopez had 12 points and Stella Parker scored eight points. Kayla Richardson added five points and Olivia Jones scored five, while Alexis Soloman and Mia Winston both had two points. 

Eureka led 4-0 before Kaza made a free throw and Taylor added two from the line. Taylor made a steal and a basket to give the Scots the lead. Lopez and Byars scored, then Byars came back to hit a field goal and two free throws. Kaza hit a three-pointer for a 16-6 lead with 3:57 to go in the first quarter.
Kaza made another three-pointer, Taylor added a free throw and scored on a layup, Soloman made two free throws and Rowe hit a jumper at the buzzer for a 26-14 Lyon College lead.

Lopez and Taylor scored early in the second period for the Scots. Taylor made a jumper, Lopez put in two free throws and hit a basket, then Kaza put in a shot for a 38-22 lead. Taylor put in a shot, Lopez hit a jumper, Taylor made two free throws, picked off a pass and threw it to Kaza for a layup and a 46-25 Lyon College lead with 3:03 to go before halftime. Byars added a free throw to put the Scots up 47-28.

Rowe made a three-pointer to start the scoring in the third quarter for a 20-point Lyon lead, 50-30. Baskets by Lopez, Kaza and Byars kept the lead at 20 for Lyon College, then Byars made a three-pointer. Richardson scored twice inside and Byars put in a layup, then Kaza scored twice, made a steal and assisted Byars on a fast-break layup for a 68-39 lead with 3:22 to go in the third quarter.
A minute later, Rowe made a three-pointer and Parker put in a layup, Taylor scored and Byars put in two shots for a 78-40 Scots' lead by the end of the period.

Kaza and Byars scored before Jones came in to get a basket. Parker made two free throws and Jones hit one of two from the line. Parker hit a layup, Jones followed with a layup and Winston scored on a jump shot with 2:38 to go. Richardson scored inside, Rowe made a three-pointer, Parker hit a short jumper and Rowe completed the scoring for the Scots with a jump shot.
