EUREKA, Illinois -
Kylon McCullough scored 20 points to lead the Lyon College Scots in a 76-74 SLIAC loss at Eureka College on Thursday night at Reagan Gym in Eureka, Illinois.
The Scots (13-6, 10-3) drop into tie with Greenville after the loss for the current SLIAC regular season lead.
John Paul Morgan scored 13 points, while
Nikola SaSaroga and
Israel Palmer both had 10 points.
Frank Toney scored nine points, Madison Malik had six points, Trent Bell added four points and
Jaaron Harriott added a basket for Lyon College.
Palmer made a basket and two free throws before McCullough scored for a 6-2 Lyon lead early in the first half. Toney hit a jump shot to break an 8-8 tie, then McCullough scored on a drive through the paint. Eureka came back to go up 15-12, but Morgan made a three-pointer to tie the game for the Scots. Palmer scored seconds later for the lead before Eureka grabbed it back with a trey, 18-17.
Madison scored inside, then hit a jump shot, but Eureka came back to tie the game at 21-21. McCullough scored and Eureka went ahead 26-23 before SaSaroga made two free throws. Eureka led 32-25 when Madison got a dunk for the Scots. Harriott scored and SaSaroga scored on a layup, but Eureka went up by 10 points before Morgan scored to make it 41-33 by halftime.
Palmer put in a basket and SaSaroga made a free throw. McCullough scored and Toney added a basket, but Eureka still led by 10 points, 50-40 with 16:04 left in the game. McCullough scored and Eureka went on a run to to go up by 15 points before Morgan made another three-pointer for Lyon. Morgan scored inside, McCullough added the next six points on a free throw, a basket and a three-pointer to close the gap to nine points, 62-53 with 9:23 to play.
McCullough scored, Morgan completed a three-point play, Toney scored and Bell added two free throws to make it an eight-point game, 70-62 with 6:45 to go. McCullough scored, Toney put two free throws, Bell scored on a layup and SaSaroga scored to cut the lead to 76-70 with 1:29 left in the game. SaSaroga made it a four-point game with a layup at the 46 second mark. He made a free throw for a three-point Eureka lead. In the final seconds,Toney made a free throw and purposely missed the second and Eureka got the rebound to end the game.
