UNIONTOWN, Pennsylvania -- Lyon College volleyball knocks off the #1-seed, Florida National University to advance to the USCAA National Championship Match.
Lyon College (20-8) fell 2-1 in the first three sets, with scores of 25-23, 16-25, and 19-25. The Scots stormed back to win the last two sets,with an emphatic 25-15 victory in set four to force the match into the fifth set. They had full control of the final set from the jump, winning 15-11 and claiming their second consecutive berth into the USCAA Championship Match by a final score of 3-2.
It was a full team effort for Lyon College, as three players reached double-digit kills, including the USCAA Player of the Year inÂ
Kylee Sabella who led the Scots with 16. It was also a remarkable performance from the setters, including freshman
Camryn Dawley who set a new single-game high with 28 assists. The junior setter
Madeline Hopson wasn't too far behind, as she garnered 26 assists of her own. Freshman defensive specialist
Kinley Vanmeter led the way with 20 digs for the Scots and
Cristen Cleveland led with three aces.
The Scots will take on #2-seed Shaw University, the team they opened their tournament run against, in the USCAA National Championship tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 PM CT from Uniontown.
