COLUMBUS, Mississippi - Natayla Kaza tied a Lyon College single-game scoring record for the second time, when she hit for 37 points in an 85-80 win over the Mississippi University for Women Owls in Columbus, Mississippi on Saturday afternoon.
The Scots (4-3, 1-0) secured their first SLIAC win of the season as Kaza made 15-of-24 field goals, 5-of-12 three-pointers and two free throws to go with eight rebounds.Â
Dalye Hambelton scored a season-high 17 points and had seven rebounds.
Savanna Lopez scored another double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds to go with six blocked shots.
Samantha Taylor had 10 assists and nine points,
Haven Cooper added five points and six rebounds,
Molly Mason had four points and
Alexis Shelton ahd three points.
Lyon College scored 48 points in the paint, had 16 points off of 19 MUW turnovers, had 14 second-chance points, 21 fast-break points and eight bench points. the lead changed 11 times and was tied four times.
The Scots outscored MUW 28-23 in the first quarter, and 21-19 in the second period to lead 49-41. Both teams scored 19 points in the third quarter and the Owls outscored the Lyon 19-17.
