Taylor scores 34 points, Kaza puts in 32 points as Scots defeat Austin College 106-85 on Saturday

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - Samantha Taylor scored 34 points and dished out 11 assists to go with six steals, and Natalya Kaza scored 32 points on 12-of-19 field goals to lead the Lyon College Scots women's basketball team to a 106-85 win over the visiting Austin College Kangaroos on Saturday afternoon at Becknell Gymnasium.

The Scots (3-0) also got a double-double from Savanna Lopez, who had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Dalye Hambelton had 10 points, as well, and hit three three-pointers. Molly Mason scored six points and had nine rebounds, Haven Cooper had four points and five boards, while Savannah Stout and Mia Winston both three-points apiece, Alexis Shelton added a basket, and Izabel Soto and Chasity Taylor scored one point each at the free throw line in the victory.

Lyon College scored 40 points in the paint, had 28 points off of Kangaroo turnovers, hit 16 second-chance points off the offensive glass, made 30 points on fast-breaks and got 14 points from bench players. 
The score was tied one time and there were two lead changes early in the first quarter.

The Scot led 28-18 after the first period and built that to a 51-38 halftime lead. Lyon College outscored Austin College 28-24 in the third quarter and 27-23 in the final stanza to score over 100 points for the second time in three games.

In the annual Toy Toss contest, Taylor scored the first points on a layup just six seconds into the game and toys came flying on the court. Austin College came back after the stoppage of play to score four straight points, but Kaza made her first of six three-pointers on the night.

Lopez scored inside and Taylor made one of two free throws, then a layup for a 16-8 lead for Lyon College. Kaza put in a layup, but Austin College closed the gap to four points with two quick scores, but Taylor made another free throw and Shelton scored inside. Kaza made a layup and hit another three-pointer and Taylor scored to make it 28-18.

Mason scored to start the second period, Hambelton made a three-pointer and Lopez put in a short jumper to give the Scots a 37-18 lead with 7:02 left before halftime. 
Kaza made a layup for a 20-point Lyon College advantage and Mason kept the Scots lead at 20 with another basket. Kaza hit her third three-pointer for a 44-23 lead with 4:23 to go in the second period and a three-pointer from Stout gave Lyon College its largest lead at 22 points with 3:57 left.
Kaza made her fourth three-pointer and Taylor added a free throw before halftime for the Scots.

Taylor made four free throws in a row and Hambelton added two from the line before Taylor scored on a layup for a 59-42 lead at the eight minute mark of the third quarter. Taylor put in two more free throws, Mason scored and Kaza got a layup to fall for a 65-42 Lyon College lead with 6:46 to go in the third period.
Kaza's fifth three-pointer came a minute later and Taylor put in two more free throws before Winston made a jumper for a 72-52 Scots lead. Taylor made two more free throws and Cooper put in a layup. Winston made one of two from the line and Cooper scored again to put the Scots up 79-62 by the end of the third.

Taylor, who was 16-of-18 on free throws for the game, made two more to start the fourth period for Lyon College. Lopez and Kaza scored, then Kaza sank two free throws for an 87-72 lead with 7:28 to play. 
Lopez put in a jumper and Hambelton made a three-pointer. Taylor sank two more free throws and added a layup to push the Lyon College lead back to 20 points, 96-76 with 5:35 to go. 
Taylor made a three-pointer seconds later and Lopez hit another jumper to make it a 101-81 lead with 3:10 left on the clock. Taylor made another three-pointer, Chasity Taylor added a free throw and Soto scored with 26 seconds left from the free throw line to account for the Lyon College scoring. 

The Scots will be on the road at the University of the Ozarks on Tuesday night before going to St. Louis to play in the Washington University Holiday tournament next Friday and Saturday.
