STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania - The Lyon College Scots men's golf team is leading the 2024 USCAA Men's Golf National Championship by 14 strokes over second place after round one at the Penn State Blue par-72 Blue Course.
The Scots are 10 over par after the first day and lead the Apprentice School by 14 strokes and Penn State Mont Alto by 18.
Individually, John
Blake Turner of Lyon College is in second place overall after shooting an even par-72. He birdied hole seven, 16 and 18 and had pars on holes one, two, five, six, eight, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 17.
Brooks Vangilder is tied for third place with a two-over 74 in the first round. Vangilder had birdies on one, nine and 12, while parring six, eight, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17 and 18.
Ryan Kriz is tied for fifth overall with a 3-over 75 after the first round. Kriz had birdies on holes 10 and 16, while parring all but one of his first nine holes. On the back nine, Kriz parred 13, 14, 15, and 18.
Michael Winne is tied for ninth place overall with a 5-over 77. Winne birdied hole number one, hole 12, 15 and 16. He parred two, six, eight, nine, 10, 14 and 17.
Manav Perfecto is in a tie for 24th overall with a nine-over 81 in the first round. Perfecto birdied holes nine and 14, while parring one, six, seven, 10, 12, 13, 15 and 17.
There are 99 individual golfers in the tournament.
The final day of the USCAA National Championships concludes on Tuesday afternoon.
