Zharia Childress had 10 points to lead the Lyon College women's basketball Scots to a 105-69 win over visiting Eureka College in SLIAC action at Becknell Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Scots (8-3, 3-1) led 19-13 after the first quarter and outscored Eureka College 35-17 in the second quarter to take a 54-30 halftime lead. Lyon outscored the Red Devils 30-15 in the third quarter to lead by as much as 30 points.Â
In the first quarter, Taylor scored on a jumper through the lane and Byars scored inside, but Eureka went up 7-6 before Lopez scored inside and
Kayla Richardson put in a basket. Kaza scored and Rowe came in for three jump shots in a row for an 18-10 lead for Lyon College. Rowe added a free throw and the Scots led by six points after one period.
Taylor started the scoring in the second period for Lyon College, but Eureka College got to within on point 21-20 when Lopez scored inside. Byars added a basket and Lopez put in another jumper to raise the Scots lead to seven points. Lopez scored again, Byars put in a basket and Rowe hit a jumper to make it 33-25. Rowe hit a three-pointer, Lopez scored inside, Kaza scored and Childress hit a basket in the paint twice for a 45-30 lead. Two more baskets from Lopez and a three-pointer from
Stella Parker was followed by a basket from Kaza for a 54-30 lead.
Childress scored first in the third period. Taylor added two free throws, Kaza made two free throws and Lopez scored inside for a 62-31 lead. Kaza and Taylor both scored, then Taylor put in two free throws and Rowe scored. Byars put in two straight baskets, Childress scored twice,
Emily Walley scored inside, Byars put in a shot for a 43-point Lyon College lead. 84-41.Â
Taylor hit a basket inside and stepped out for a three-pointer.
Olivia Jones scored inside and Kaza put in a shot. Leilani Regio made her first basket to make it 95-49, 46-points ahead for Lyon. Richardson and Jones scored, then
Alexis Soloman scored inside to make it a 101-51 lead with 4:43 to play. Walley and Jones scored baskets for the Scots in the final stages.
The Scots will host Blackburn College at 1 p.m. on SaturdayÂ
