Byars and Lopez lead Lyon College to 98-66 win over visiting Fontbonne

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - Allison Byars scored 23 points, Savanna Lopez added 22 points and Brooklyn Rowe came off the bench for 17 points in a 98-66 Scots win over the visiting Fontbonne Griffins in SLIAC action at Becknell Gymnasium on Thursday night.

The Scots (11-7, 6-5) was led in rebounds by Zharia Childress with nine and seven points. Natalya Kaza had nine points, seven rebounds and six assists, Stella Parker added seven points, Samantha Taylor added five points, Kayla Richardson had four points, Olivia Jones scored three points and Alexis Soloman had one point. 

Byars started off the game with a jump shot, then Lopez scored and Byars put in a layup, then Childress scored twice for a 10-2 Lyon College lead early in the first quarter. Baskets by Childress and Byars led to a 10-point lead for the Scots, but the Griffins closed the game to six points before Kaza made a free throw. Byars scored twice in a row, then Parker got a basket to fall, Byars put in two free throws and Lopez scored inside for a 25-16 lead after the first quarter.

Lopez scored again, followed by a basket from Richardson and Taylor's jumper. Byars scored, Richardson got a basket to fall and Kaza put in a jump shot to make it 37-16. Fontbonne made its first shot of the second quarter at the 6:26 mark. Lopez put in a basket, Taylor scored and Rowe made a three-pointer. Lopez put in another basket, Parker made a free throw before Lopez made a jump shot. Parker had another free throw, then Rowe made a layup and hit her second three-pointer to make it 55-31 at halftime.

A basket by Lopez and a three-pointer from Byars led to two free throws from Childress and a three-pointer from Kaza made it a 30-point Scots' lead, 64-34. Kaza made a three-pointer before Fontbonne scored in the third quarter. Byars and Parker made two free throws, then after two more free throws, Lopez scored on a jumper and Jones made a free throw for a 76-49 Lyon College lead heading into the final quarter.

Lopez made three jumpers in a row, Byars scored again, Soloman put in a free throw, Rowe hit a jumper, then made two free throws and a three-pointer for a 94-66 lead with 3:44 to go in the game. Rowe added another jumper and Jones made two free throws to close out the scoring for the Scots.

Lyon College will host Principia on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
