Scots men fall in overtime at Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky -  Despite four players scoring in double-figures, the Lyon College Scots men's basketball team dropped an 86-80 decision in overtime at Spalding University on Saturday afternoon in SLIAC action.

The Scots (8-5, 5-2) got 21 points from Kylon McCullough, 16 points from Nikola SaSarogra, 14 points from Frank Toney and 10 points from Trenton Bell in the loss. John Paul Morgan had nine points and six rebounds, Jaaron Harriott had six points,  Malik Maidson had three points and Jones White scored one point.

The Scots led 39-33 at halftime and were tied at 72-72 by the end of regulation and Spalding outscored Lyon College 14-8 in the five minute overtime period. 

The Scots fell behind 12-4 early on before McCullough hit a jump shot and SaSaroga put in two free throws. McCullough made another basket and Morgan added two free throws. White made one of two from the line as did Harriott. Morgan tied the game at 17-17 with a jump shot and put the Scots ahead by two points by doing the same thing on the next trip. Bell hit  a jump shot and Harriott made two free throws, but Spalding came back to tie it at 23-23. 
Bell made a field goal and hit a three-pointer before Toney scored on a jump shot and Bell came back to hit another three-pointer for a 33-25 Lyon College lead. McCullough, Morgan and SaSaroga scored for Lyon and SaSaroga added a free throw with 29 seconds left in the first half to lift the Scots to a 39-33 lead.

Madison put in two free throws and McCullough made two three-pointers in a row to push Lyon's lead to 47-41 early in the second half. SaSaroga scored in the paint, McCullough hit a jump shot and Toney scored to make it 53-46 at the 13:11 mark. Harriott put in a basket, Toney scored twice, but Spalding came back to cut the lead down to five points before Morgan scored for the Scots. Toney put in a jumper and a few minutes later, McCullough made a three-pointer for a 67-57 lead with 6:33 to play. Lyon didn't score again until Madison put in a free throw with 2:59 to play to keep the Scots ahead 68-65. Toney made a three-pointer at the 2:21 mark and Spalding came back to tie the game at 72-72 with two seconds remaining.

A jumper from McCullough with 3:36 to go in overtime put Lyon College up 76-74, but from there, Spalding ran off 11 straight points before Lyon scored on a SaSaroga jumper with 12 seconds remaining.
