GREENVILLE, Illinois - The Lyon College Scots scored a new school record 132 points, which surpassed the old record of 120 by the Scots vs. Blue Mountain in 2009-10.
Trenton Bell scored a season-high 39 points,
Malik Madison scored 24 points and had 15 rebounds to go with six blocked shots.
Nikola SaSaroga scored 21 points and had seven rebounds,
Frank Toney hit for 17 points and had eight assists,
Kylon McCullough had 14 points and
John Paul Morgan put together a double-double with 13 points and a season-high 14 rebounds.
All of that scoring and the Scots (8-4, 5-1)Â lost to the Greenville Panthers 134-132 in SLIAC action in Greenville.Â
The Scots scored a history-making 78 first half points, leading by nine points.
Madison, Bell and SaSaroga kept the Scots going in the early stages of the first half. Madison got a dunk, Bell hit a three-pointer and SaSaroga put in a layup for a 16-8 Lyon College lead. SaSaroga, Morgan and Madison scored, then Bell,
Luke Bridges and SaSaroga put in baskets, but Greenville came back to take a 33-32 lead with 10:25 to go in the first half.
Madison got another dunk, Toney hit a three-pointer, Bell added two free throws and a jump shot, then another dunk from Madison and a jumper from Bell put the Scots back in front 43-42. Bell made a three-pointer, Toney hit for a trey, Bell made another three-pointer and Lyon was up 52-42 that quick.
SaSaroga completed a three-point play, Toney made two free throws and Morgan scored inside. Morgan added two free throws and Bell got a dunk. Bell made a three-pointer for a 66-55 Scots lead, then he made another three-pointer that led to free throws by Toney and SaSaroga. Madison scored twice and SaSaroga put in two free throws to make it 78-69 at the break.
Greenville stayed from one to three points for the first half of the second period. A jumper at the 13:19 mark made it a 90-89 Scots lead. Toney, Bell, and SaSaroga scored. McCullough put in a basket and SaSaroga got a dunk on a fast-break for a 101-92 Lyon College lead. McCullough and Toney scored to keep the Scots up by seven points, then McCullough scored two baskets in a row to keep Lyon College ahead by eight points. SaSaroga hit a jump shot to make it a 116-106 Lyon lead with 7:13 to go.
More scoring from Bell and McCullough made it a 126-120 Lyon lead with 2:51 to play, but Greenville came back to tie the game at 126-126 at the 2:17 mark.Â
Morgan made a free throw, Bell hit a jumper and added a free throw, but Greenville led by three 133-130. Morgan made two free throws to cut the lead to one point, but Greenville put in one free throw with 22 seconds left. The Scots missed a chance to tie the game with three seconds left.
