EUREKA, Illinois - The Lyon College Scots volleyball team earned a split with at Eureka College in a SLIAC tri-match.
The Scots (6-10, 3-1) defeated host Eureka College 3-1 in the first match of the day then lost to 3-1 to Webster in a hard-fought second match. The loss broke a five-match winning streak for Lyon College.
Against Eureka, Lyon won the first set 33-31, won the second set 25-10, dropped the third set 26-24 and won the fourth set 25-10.Â
Kylee Sabella led the Scots against Eureka with 16 kills,
Paeton Tucker had 11 kills and
Keeley Beary had eight.
Olivia Locke had four ace serves, while Tucker adn Sabella both had two apiece.
Samantha Ferguson had four blocks, Sabella had three and
Bethany Williams had one block.
Madeline Hopson had 26 assists,
Lauren White had 20 assists and Locke had three. Sabella led in digs with 24, Tucker had 16 and Locke had 16 in the win.Â
A kill by
Isabella Beasley ended the long first set after a Eureka service error. Lyon College closed out the second set with a kill by Tucker, a block by Williams and Sabella, then two straight service aces from Tucker ended it.
The Scots held service for with set and match point 24-22 in the third set, but Eureka came back to take advantage of an attack error by Lyon, then got a kill to tie the set. A ball-handling error and an attack error by the Scots gave Eureka the victory.
The Scots went on a 9-0 run to end the fourth set quickly with a kill from Ferguson, a service ace by Locke, a kill by Tucker, three errors in a row from Eureka, another service ace from Locke, a kill by Williams and an attack error ended the match for Lyon College.
Against Webster, the Scots lost 25-17 and 25-20 in the first two sets, but won 29-27 in the third set and nearly took the third set, too, but ultimately lost 28-26 for their first loss in conference play.
Tucker led Lyon College with 12 kills, Beasley had nine kills and Sabella had six. Sabella had five ace serves, while Hopson and White both had two aces each. Ferguson had three blocks, Beasley had two and Williams had one block. Hopson led in assists with 19, White had 11 and Locke added seven. Sabella and Locke led in digs with 17 apiece and Tucker added 13.
After the dropping the first two sets, the Scots raced out to a 17-10 lead on Webster led by kills from Ferguson and Sabella. Webster came back to close the gap to 21-17 and with Lyon College at set point, Webster scored five points in a row to tie it at 24-24. Finally, an attack error by Webster and a kill by Ferguson gave the Scots the win.Â
The fourth set was back and forth until Webster took a 24-20 lead. Lyon College rallied back behind two attack errors from Webster, a kill by Tucker and two service aces by Sabella to go up 25-24. Webster scored four out of the next five points to win the match.
