BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots volleyball team swept the Crowley's Ridge College Pioneers 3-0 on Tuesday night at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (2-9) won in straight sets 25-17, 25-18 and 25-20.
Leading the way for Lyon College was
Kylee Sabella with 16 kills, two ace serves, one block and 19 digs.
Bethany Williams had nine kills and one ace serve.
Samantha Ferguson had seven kills in the match and three blocks.
Madeline Hopson had 22 assists,
Lauren White had 19 and Olivia Lock had three assists. Locke led the Scots with 20 digs and
Paeton Tucker had 15 digs on the night.
Set one began with a 2-1 lead for CRC, but a block by Ferguson tied the set and then she got a kill after a couple of Pioneer errors for a 5-2 Scots lead. Minutes later, Sabella served an ace, Keeley Berry got a kill off a set from Hopson, then Hopson set up Williams for a kill and a five point lead.Â
CRC came back to get within two points, but a service ace from Tucker led to two errors by the Pioneers and White set for a Sabella kill. White set up Sabella for another kill and
Isabella Beasley got a kill off a White set. Sabella closed out the short rally with another kill off a set from White to make it 18-10.
Sabella made another kill off of a White set, then she got another kill off of a Hopson set. Sabella served up an ace, then Beary, Tucker and Williams all got kills to close out the first set off of sets from Hopson.
Tucker opened the second set with ak ill and Ferguson got a block for a point to make it 3-1 early on. Ferguson made a kill off a Hopson set and an attack error from CRC led to a kill from Beasley off a White set. Beasley stepped up for another kill and Ferguson got one both from sets by White. CRC came back to tie the set 11-11, but Sabella made a kill off a Hopson set and two errors from the Pioneers allowed Lyon a two point lead. Ferguson had another kill followed by a kill from Williams off a set from Locke and Williams got another kill off a set from White to make it 16-13. Then White stepped in for a service ace.Â
Sabella got a kill off a set from Locke, then Williams had a service ace to put the Scots up 20-17. After CRC closed the set to two points, the Pioneers had an attack error, then a block from Sabella scored a point and the set ended on a ball-handling error by Crowley's Ridge.
Sabella started the third set with a kill off a set by Hopson. Sabella made another kill and Ferguson got a block for a point. Tucker got a kill off a Hopson set and Ferguson made another block. Williams made a kill, Tucker had a kill and Beasley made a kill off of sets from Hopson, White and Locke for a short rally that led to a 7-3 lead. After a bad CRC set, Sabella made two kills in a road after sets from White. Ferguson got a kill off a Hopson set for an 11-9 lead.
CRC came back to take a 12-11 lead, but Tucker tied the game with a kill and Williams had a kill to tie the set at 13-13. Tucker got a kill off a set from White to tie it at 14-14, then Sabella had two more kills in a row off sets from White to put the Scots in front for good.
Beasley added a kill
Claire Carothers served an ace and Ferguson got a kill to make it 19-15. Sabella came in to get a kill off a set from White, then Ferguson had a kill off a Hopson set, Sabella followed with a kill off a Hopson set and Beary had a kill. An attack error and a kill from Williams off a Hopson set ended the set and match.
The Scots will enter SLIAC tri-match play on Saturday against Eureka College and Principia College beginning at 10 a.m.
