CONWAY, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots had picked up their first win of the season on Friday night, but had to be on the court at Hendrix College on Saturday at noon to play Centenary College and Rhodes College at 2 p.m.
In less than a 24 hours from a win, the Scots (1-9) battled Centenary tooth and nail through a hard fought 5-set match that could have gone either way throughout. Lyon College lost the first set 25-22, but came back to win the second 25-12 and the third set 25-14. The fourth set went Centenary 25-17 and the fifth and deciding set was only two points, 17-15.
Individually,
Kylee Sabella led the Scots with 16 kills,
Samantha Ferguson had 13 kills and Keely Beary had 12.
Madeline Hopson and
Lauren White had 25 assists each. Hopson had five aces, while
Paeton Tucker and Sabella had one each. Tucker and
Bethany Williams had three blocks each and Ferguson had two. Olivia Lock led in digs with 25, Tucker had 19 and Sabella also had 19 digs.
Jumping to the fifth set, Lyon led early 9-4 on kills from Sabella and a handful of errors from Centenary. Ferguson got back-to-back kills, Williams got a kill off a set from White and Hopson served an ace, but Centenary College came back to tie the game at 14-14. Williams tied the game at 15-15 on a kill, but Centenary got two kills in a row to end the match.
Against Rhodes College, Lyon still battled despite being physically fatigued. The Lynx won 25-19, 25-17 and 25-23.
Sabella again led the Scots with eight kills, Tucker had seven kills and Ferguson had five. Williams, Olivia Lock and White all had ace serves, Ferguson and Beary had three blocks each, Hopson led in assist with 13, White had seven and Locke made four. Sabella and Locke had 14 digs each and Tucker finished with 10.
