HANNIBAL, Mo. - The Lyon College Scots baseball team split an American Midwest Conference double-header against the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets at Stars Field in St. Louis, Missouri on Friday afternoon.
The Scots (14-15, 7-4) won the first game 8-4 and lost the second 3-1.
In the first game, the Hornets took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning, but
Garrett Graef singled in
Jayden Cull in the top of the second inning to tie the game.
Logan Lightner singled to left field to bring in Graef and
Austin Shipman scored when Lightner was caught in a run-down. .
Cull blasted a three-run homer in the top of the third inning to make it a 6-1 Lyon College lead.Â
Lane McLeavain singled in two more runs in the top of the fourth inning, scoring
Zane Wallace and Shipman for an 8-1 lead.Â
Ayden Heitmann picked up the win on the mound for the Scots, pitching all seven innings and giving up seven hits, four runs, three of which were earned and he had five strike outs.
In the second game, Lyon's chance to score came in the top of the ninth inning trailing 3-0. Cull singled to center field to bring in
Pierce Corbo, but the Scots left the bases loaded.Â
Lightner,
Bradley McLemore, McLeavain and Cull had all the Scots hits in the game. Lyon College struck out 10 times.Â
Cameron Gordon took the loss on the mound for the Scots. He pitched eight innings, gave up six hits, three runs, none of which were earned, walked four and struck out six batters.Â
