Scots softball sweeps UHS&P

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - MK Duffield had a long hit to right-center field that was misplayed by the University of Health, Sciences and Pharmacy's center fielder and the Lyon College Scots came from behind to take a 3-2 win in the first game of an American Midwest Conference double-header at Howard and Mary House Field in Batesville on Saturday afternoon.

The Scots (17-21, 5-13) won the second game 8-4 to earn the sweep and more importantly, tie the Eutectics for the final spot in the AMC tournament. Lyon College has to win both games on Sunday against Harris-Stowe State at home to clinch their position in the post-season.

UHS&P led 2-0 through the first six innings of Game 1, but in the bottom of the sixth, Trinity Arrambide reached first on an error that allowed McKenzie Campbell to score to make it a 2-1 game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Anna Voth doubled in Sophie Varela to tie the game, then Duffield reached first on an error by the Eutectics center fielder on a long fly ball. That play allowed Voth to score and win the game for Lyon College. 

Lyon College had seven hits in the game. Voth and Campbell had two hits each, Varela, Whitney Mitchell and Fallon Lancaster accounted for the other three, while Duffield and Arrambide drew walks. Mitchell and Voth both had doubles, while Lancaster and Arrambide had stolen bases.

Campbell was the winning pitcher for the Scots, going seven full innings. She gave up six hits two runs and struck out nine batters of the 27 she faced.

In Game 2, Duffield doubled in the bottom of the first inning to score Mitchell.
In the bottom of the second inning, Mitchell reached first on an error and scored Savannah Lee. Voth followed with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Emily Martinez to make it a 3-0 Scots lead.
Lee reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the third inning to score Duffield and in the fourth, Voth reached on an error and Mya King scored, then Lancaster singled in Voth and Varela to make it a 7-0 Lyon College lead.

UHS&P scored two runs to keep the game going another inning and in the bottom of the sixth, Arrambide hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to bring in Voth for an 8-2 lead. 
The Eutectics added two more runs in a short rally during the top of the seventh inning.

The Scots had 10 hits in the second game. Varela, Duffield and Campbell had two hits each, while Voth, Lancaster, Lee and Martinez all had one hit each. Varela, Mitchell, Duffield and Martinez walked during the game. Varela and Mitchell scored once each, Voth scored twice, Duffield and Lee scored once and Martinez crossed home plate for a run. 
Duffield had two doubles in the game and Varela had a stolen base.

Alyssa Buentello pitched the entire game for the Scots and picked up the win. She allowed seven hits, four runs and struck out seven batters.
