BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots softball team improved to 8-6 on the season after a double-header sweep of the visiting Westminster College Blue Jays, 14-0 and 10-2 on Sunday afternoon at Howard and Mary House Field in Batesville.
The Scots put up four runs in the bottom of the third inning when
Fallon Lancaster singled in
Anna Voth.
Whitney Mitchell hit a grounder to first base that scored MK Duffield from third.
Alyssa Buentello singled to bring in
Savannah Lee and
Emily Martinez walked with the bases loaded to bring in Lancaster for a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth the Scots scored a season-high 10 runs. Mitchell singled in Voth, Buentello reached on a fielder's choice to score Lee,
McKenzie Campbell reached on an error that brought in Lancaster,
Sophie Varela tripled of the right-center field fence to bring in Martinez, Campbell and Buentello.
Tatjana Preston singled in Varela and Lancaster doubled in three more runs to score Lee, Duffield and Preston to make it 14-0.
Campbell pitched all five innings and picked up the win for the Lyon College. She gave up two its and struck out seven batters in the win.
In the second game, Westminster took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a single and an unearned run came across the plate.Â
In the bottom of the second, Varela walked for the Scots with the bases loaded to bring in Mitchell. Voth reached on an error that scored Buentello for a 2-1 lead. Then Duffield blasted a grand slam homerun over the left-center field fence that scored Voth, Varela and Preston to make it 6-1.
The Scots put up four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Duffield doubled in
Trinity Arrambide, Varela and Voth. Lancaster reached on a fielder's choice that brought in Duffield for a 10-1 lead.
Westminster added a single run in the top of the fifth inning, but with the bases loaded and two outs, Lyon College pitcher
Sabrina Lowe, struck out the last batter to end the game.
Lowe picked up the win on the mound for the Scots going five innings, giving up seven hits and two runs, while striking out three batters.
