HANNIBAL, Missouri - The Lyon College Scots baseball team split a double-header with the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans 12-4 and 4-0, on Sunday afternoon in American Midwest Conference play.
The Scots (7-10, 2-0) scored nine runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the contest 12-4.
Lyon College scored in the top of the first inning when
Austin Shipman doubled to bring in
Garrett Graef and
Bradley McLemore for a 2-0 lead.Â
After the Trojans tied the game, the Scots took the lead in the top of the fourth with nine runs.
Beau Smith singled to bring in
Derek Underwood, McLemore singled to score Smith and
Zane Wallace,
Logan Lightner walked with the bases loaded to score Graef,
Thomas Lingren was hit by a pitch to bring in McLemore, Underwood doubled to score Shipman and Lightner, then Cull singled to bring in Underwood and Lingren for an 11-2 lead.
Lyon College added another run in the top of the sixth when Smith grounded and Lingren scored on the play.
Shipman and Underwood had doubles in the game, while Lightner had a triple.
Ayden Heitmann was the winning pitcher, going six innings and allowing two earned runs while striking out five of the 26 he faced.
Joe Galway came in for the final inning.
In the second game, the Scots scored one run in the top of the second, added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning and another in the seventh, as
Cameron Gordon picked up the win.
In the top of the second inning, Lightner stole home for a 1-0 Lyon College lead. In the fourth, Shipman hit a solo homer to right field and later in the inning
Jayden Cull singled in Lightner for a 3-0 lead.
Lightner hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to bring in Graef.
