Lyon College baseball Scots split double-header at Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas - The Lyon College Scots baseball team split a double-header with the Austin College Kangaroos winning 2-1 and losing 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in Sherman, Texas.

The Scots (5-8) took the win in the first game when Beau Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring in Garrett Graef in the top of the sixth inning. 

Lyon College had tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second inning when Austin Shipman advanced to the plate after Austin College was called for a balk.

Graef has a stolen base and Logan Lightner and Shipman were both hit by pitches. The Scots had four hits in the game, Lightner, Jayden Cull, Graef and Wallace. Lyon left seven men on base.

Ayden Heitmann (3-1) picked up the win going seven innings, giving up seven hits and one run, which was unearned. He walked one batter, struck out four and faced 28 batters.

The Kangaroos won the second game of the double-header 5-1, scoring one run in the bottom of the third, three more in the bottom of the fifth and one in the seventh.

The Scots only run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Bradley McLemore hit a sacrifice fly to score Derek Underwood.

Lyon College was limited to just three hits in the second game. Cull, Wallace and Underwood had successful at-bats The Scots struck out 17 times and left five runners on base. 

Wallace's hit was a triple and Underwood had a stolen base.

Cameron Gordon (2-2) suffered the loss on the mound for the Scots, going five innings, giving up three earned runs, walked one and struck out four of the 18 batters he faced. Ian Jackson came in to pitch for one out in the bottom of the fifth and gave up two hits, one earned run and walked a batter. Jesse McGonigal came in to pitch the remaining 3.1 innings and allowed four hits, one run and struck out three of the 13 batters he faced.
