Allison Byars scored 20 points, while
Paige Tate and
Savanna Lopez both scored 18 points each in an 86-79 loss to visiting Williams Baptist on Tuesday night.
The Scots (8-13, 7-10) got 13 points off of turnovers, four second-chance points and 25 points from the bench. Lyon College led by as much as three points in the first quarter.
Williams Baptist outscored the Scots 27-26 in the first quarter and 16-14 in the second period to take a 43-40 halftime lead. The Eagles came out in the third quarter to outscore Lyon 25-23 and in the fourth quarter 18-16 to take the win.
In the first quarter Tate made consecutive jump shots and Lopez made two jumpers to keep the Scots close 14-13.Byars scored twice, Lopez scored again and
Natalya Kaza hit a three-pointer to make it a one-point Eagles lead.
Byars and Lopez scored, then Tate added two more baskets and
Kayla Richardson made a shot inside to cut the Eagles lead to 35-34. Lopez scored again,
Blake Green added two free throws to put the Scots up 38-37 with 3:39 to go before halftime. The Scots scored again with three seconds left from Tate to close the Eagles lead to three points.
Richardson completed a three-point play and Lopez made two shots in a row to keep Lyon close, 51-47. Tate scored twice, Byars completed a three-point play, Tate scored again and Byars made a three-pointer to cut the lead to 63-61 with 1:31 left in the third. Tate scored to keep the game within five points a minute later.
Kaza, Lopez and
Kristen Baham scored, but Williams Baptist moved out to an 80-69 lead. Byars made another three-pointer, Richardson scored twice and Byars added the Scots last basket with 49 seconds to go.
