BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots softball team took a double-header from the visiting Iowa Wesleyan Tigers on Friday afternoon at Howard and Mary House Field 6-0 and 12-11.
McKenzie Campbell picked up the win on the mound for the Scots in Game 1. Campbell pitched seven full innings, gave up four hits, zero earned runs and struck out seven batters of the 27 Tigers she faced.Â
The Scots (4-6) scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning of the first game when Savanna Lee doubled in MK Duffield and
Anna Voth.Â
Lyon added three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning when
Sophie Varela singled in
Caeley Wood, then Lee reached first on an error that allowed Voth and Varela to score for a 5-0 lead.Â
Trinity Arrambide hit a sacrifice fly to left field to bring in
Alyssa Buentello in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-0.
Game 2 was a slug-fest featuring a nine-run fifth inning for the Scots in a 12-11 win. Lyon had 12 runs on 13 hits. Buentello picked up the victory, while Campbell got a save.Â
Iowa Wesleyan led 6-0 in the top of the third inning of the second game. Lyon added two runs in the bottom of the third when Duffield hit a 2-run homer scoring Voth.
Iowa Wesleyan added three more runs in the fourth and fifth innings to go up 9-2, but
Whitney Mitchell tripled for the Scots in the bottom of the fifth to score Lee and Duffield. Lyon called a double-steal where Campbell stole second and Mitchell stole home. Buentello doubled in Campbell and later in the inning, Varela drew a walk with the bases loaded to bring in Buentello. That was followed up by a Voth double that scored
Emily Martinez and Arrambide to tie the game 9-9. Duffield put the Scots in front with a sacrifice grounder that brought in Varela. Mitchell singled in Voth on the next at-bat.
In the bottom of the sixth, Voth doubled in Arrambide to make it 12-9. Iowa Wesleyan scored two in the top of the seventh and left two runners in scoring position when the game ended on a strike out.
