BATESVILLE, ARK. - The Lyon College Scots softball team swept a double-header against the Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes 3-2, 8-0 at Howard and Mary House Field in Batesville.
In the first game, Arkansas Baptist took a 2-0 lead on a triple and passed ball in the top of the third inning. Lyon (2-6) came back in the bottom half of the third to score three times, when
Fallon Lancaster doubled in
Sophie Varela and
Emily Martinez to tie the game 2-2. The next Scots batter,
Whitney Mitchell singled in Voth for the lead.
McKenzie Campbell was the winning pitcher. She threw for four innings and allowed only two runs and struck out three batters.
Alyssa Buentello picked up a save with three innings pitched with six strikeouts, no runs and no hits.
In the second game, a six-run third inning provided the Scots with a five-inning 8-0 win. In the bottom of the third, Varela doubled in
Tatjana Preston, then Voth singled in Martinez and on the play Voth advanced to second and Varela scored on a throwing error. Voth scored on an error by the Buffaloes third baseman, Mitchell singled in MK Duffield and Martinez walked with the bases loaded to bring in
Mya King for a 6-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, Duffield singled in Voth to make it 7-0. Duffield was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the fifth with bases loaded to bring in the eighth run and end the game.
