HANNIBAL, MO. - The Lyon College Scots suffered a heart-breaking 66-65 loss at Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday afternoon in American Midwest Conference action at the Mabee Sports Complex.
The Scots (8-14, 4-11) made a late run and missed a last-second shot that would have won the game.Â
Trenton Bell and
Sando Hill led the Scots with 18 points each.
Nikola SaSaroga scored 15 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double and
John Paul Morgan had 12 points and nine rebounds (527).
Lyon scored 26 poinuts in the paint, had nine points off of turnovers and six second-chance points. The Scots largest lead was six points with 15:55 left in the first half.
When Morgan made two free throws with 14:26 left in the first half, Lyon College led 10-4. Within two minutes, Hannibal tied the game on an 8-2 run. SaSaroga scored on a layup with 10:02 to go in the first half to give Lyon a 16-14 lead and the Trojans scored the next seven points. Hill made a three-pointer late in the half to cut the Hannibal lead to five points, 34-29.
Early in the second Bell made a jumper and hit a three-pointer to make it a two-point game and the Scots stayed close until SaSaroga made it a one-point game on a dunk with 13:19 to go, 44-43. Morgan tied it at 49-49 on an inside layup and SaSaroga tied the game on a layup less than a minute later. SaSaroga made a jumper to put the Scots up by one point with six minutes to go, 55-54.Â
Hill completed a traditional three-point play with 1:26 left to put Lyon College up 63-62. Hannibal-LaGrange made four free throws over the next minute to lead by three. Morgan scored quickly inside to cut the game to one point with 20 seconds to go.Â
