ALLEN, TEXAS - The Lyon College softball team made its 2023 debut on Friday in the SCS NAIA Invitational tournament in Allen, Texas.
On Friday, the Scots (0-2) lost a 9-6 decision to Southwestern Assemblies of God University, then dropped a 7-1 decision to Texas Wesleyan.
In the first game, the Scots trailed 2-0 before
Fallon Lancaster doubled in
Sophie Varela in bottom of the third inning.
Caeley Wood walked with the bases loaded to advance
Alyssa Buentello to second,
Savannah Lee went to third and MK Duffield scored to tie the game 2-2.
SAGU came back to get a run in the top of the fourth, but Lyon scored when Duffield singled in
Anna Voth to make it 3-3. SAGU scored four runs in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lee singled in Varela,
Madison Lawrence singled in Lancaster and Duffield scored on the play to close the gap to 7-6.
SAGU tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh.
The Scots had 19 hits and scored six runs in their first game of the season. Varela and Lancaster both had doubles. Lawrence and
Whitney Mitchell both had stolen bases.
McKenzie Campbell suffered the loss going all seven innings, giving up 18 hits and nine earned runs, while striking out five and walking three.
In the second game, Texas Wesleyan took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Scots were able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning when Voth singled in Lee to make it 3-1.Â
The Rams added a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to go up 7-1.
Lyon had eight hits, scored one run and had two errors in the game.Â
Sabrina Lowe suffered the loss for the Scots with an inning pitched, she gave up three hits and three earned runs. Buentello came in to pitch for three innings and allowed three hits and three runs, while walking five and striking out two. Then Campbell came in to pitch the final two innings giving up one hit, one run and struck out one.
