Six players score in double-figures for Lyon College women in 119-95 win over Crowley's Ridge

BATESVILLE, Arkansas - Samantha Taylor scored 23 points and had six steals, Savanna Lopez put in a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, Allison Byars finished with 17 points, nine boards and seven assists, Brooklyn Rowe stepped up for 17 points, while Natalya Kaza  had 11 points and Zharia Chidress scored 13 in a 119-95 win over the Crowley's Ridge Pioneers on Monday afternoon at Becknell Gymnasium.

The 119 points, was the third most points scored in the history of Lyon College women's basketball. Previously, the Scots (7-3, 2-1) scored 121 points in a win over Mississippi University for Women. Lyon College set a new team scoring record last season in a 123-59 win over Bacone College in December of 2022. The Scots have broken the century mark in scoring three times this season so far.

The Scots set the tone early leading 32-25 after the first quarter. Kaza got two free throws and Lopez tied the game at 4-4. Byars put the Scots up 7-6 with a basket, then Kaza hit a three-pointer and Childress scored inside. Crowley's Ridge came back to take a 15-14 lead, but Taylor scored inside, Rowe made a three-pointer and Taylor converted on a layup for a 21-17 Lyon College lead. Lopez put in two free throws, then added a turn-around jumper to push the Scots lead to seven points. Byars completed a three-point play and Taylor scored on a jumper for a 30-21 lead with 1:51 to go in the period. Lopez put in a basket, but the Pioneers scored the next four points to cut the Scots lead to seven.

CRC came back to get as close as two points twice in the early stages of the second quarter, but Taylor scored twice and Lopez put in four baskets to up the Scots lead to 51-37 with 4:45 to go in the period. Rowe scored,Stella  Parker hit a jumper and Taylor put in a layup for a 58-43 lead at the 3:28 mark. Lopez put in two more free throws and Rowe hit a mid-range shot to keep the Lyon lead at 15 points. Rowe made a three-pointer to give the Scots a 16-point lead 67-51 before the end of the first half.

Childress scored two baskets in the first part of the third quarter and Taylor scored three times in a row, which led to a Rowe three-pointer for an 80-62 Lyon College lead with 6:20 to go in the quarter. Taylor made a steal and layup, Parker made a three-pointer and Rowe scored in succession. CRC got the score back down to an 18-point lead, but Kaza scored, Rowe put in a layup and Kaza scored inside again. Byars put in a short jumper and completed the three-point play with a free throw to put the Scots up 96-76 by the end of the third quarter.

A jumper from Lopez and a three-pointer from Kaza gave the Scots a 25-point lead in the first minute of the fourth quarter and broke the century mark, 101-76. Childress scored inside, Lopez hit a shot from underneath and Childress scored on a fast-break. Two free throws from Byars with 4:33 to go, put the Scots up by 29 points, 111-82.
Shawna Carlton, Emily Walley, Leilani Regino and a late score from Alexis Soloman added to the Lyon College total. 

Reginia Ward scored 37 points to lead Crowley's Ridge College.
