Samantha Taylor scored 26 points and had 11 steals to lead the Lyon College Fighting Scots over the Hendrix Warriors on Friday night 91-72 in Conway.
The Scots (6-3, 2-1) also got 19 points from
Allison Byars, 17 points from
Natalya Kaza, who was 5-of-6 on three-pointers and
Brooklyn Rowe scored 11 points in the win.Â
Lyon College trailed 11-6 after the first quarter, but turned up the heat and outscored Hendrix 32-24 in the second quarter to take a 38-35 lead at halftime. The Warriors closed the third quarter down only two points, but the Scots outscored them 33-16 in the fourth quarter to run away with the lead.
Zharia Childress put in the game's first basket for the Scots and Taylor scored to tie the game at 4-4 midway through the first quarter. A steal by Taylor led to a layup off a fast-break and a 6-4 Scots lead. Hendrix scored the next seven points to lead 11-6.
Byars made two free throws and Taylor hit a three-pointer. Taylor made her second three-pointer in a row and Kaza made a trey from the wing to tie the game at 17-17 with 5:58 to go before halftime.
Alexis Soloman put in a basket to tie the game at 19-19. Byars made a jumper to start a 7-0 run from Lyon College. Rowe put in a layup and Kaza connected on a three-pointer twice to make it 29-21.Â
Byars scored again inside and Rowe made a three-pointer. Taylor added a layup and Rowe hit another jump shot, but Hendrix closed the gap to three points, 38-35 by the break.
The Warriors took a 40-38 lead early in the third quarter, but a three-pointer from Byars, a layup from Byars and a layup from Taylor off a Taylor steal put the Scots ahead 45-40. This time Hendrix came back to go up by five points, 50-45, but the Scots started another run behind a jump shot from Taylor and a basket inside from
Savanna Lopez. Taylor and Byars scored off of two steals from Taylor to put Lyon College ahead 53-52. Kaza made a three-pointer to tie the game at 56-56 and Byars scored inside to give the Scots a two-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Byars put in two free throws, Lopez made a jump shot and Childress scored to give the Scots a six-point margin.
Stella Parker hit a jump shot, then Taylor made a free throw and put in a layup for a 71-60 Lyon College lead with 5:54 to go.
Lopez scored twice, Parker put in a floating jumper, Kaza made a steal and a layup before Lopez scored again, Byars put in a layup and Kaza hit a three-pointer for an 84-69 lead with 1:36 to play. Rowe scored twice and Taylor put in a free throw, made a steal and put in a basket for a 19-point Scots lead, 91-72.
