BATESVILLE, Arkansas -
Nikola SaSaroga scored 12 points and 12 rebounds,
Malik Madison and
John Paul Morgan ad 11 points each and
Frank Toney added 10 points to lead the Lyon College Scots past the visiting Hendrix Warriors 84-66 on Thursday night at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (3-2) held a commanding 37-17 halftime lead over the Warriors and cruised to victory in the second half.
Madison scored the game's first points on a short jump shot in the lane, then stuffed toys were tossed on the court that halted play for a minute.
Hendrix came back to hit a three-pointer when time resumed, but Madison scored again inside and SaSaroga scored on a baseline drive for an early Scots lead. Toney connected on a three-pointer, but Hendrix tied the game at 9-9 and 11-11 after a basket by
Israel Palmer.
SaSaroga put Lyon back in front with a free throw, then Morgan made a three-pointer and hit on an inside drive on consecutive trips down court for a 17-11 lead. Morgan made another jumper and Madison scored inside again for a 10-point lead for Lyon College, then
Trenton Bell hit a jump shot and Palmer scored on a drive to the hoop. Toney connected on a jumper for a 27-11 Scots lead with 4:45 left in the first half.
Palmer scored again and Bell made two three-pointers in a row to make 35-17. SaSarogra put the Scots up by 20 points with a short bank shot with 1:30 to play 37-17 and neither team scored any more points before halftime.
SaSaroga made a free throw to start the scoring for Lyon as the second half began and
Kylon McCullough hit a three-pointer, added a free throw and assisted Toney on a three-pointer. McCullough connected again on a trey for a 27-point Scots lead with 16:42 to go, 47-20. Hendrix cut that lead down to 20 points a few minutes later, but Madison scored inside and Morgan put in a layup. SaSaroga scored inside and added a free throw a minute later. Madison scored again and SaSaroga put in a bucket off a drive through the paint for a 60-36 Lyon College lead with 8:40 left.
SaSaroga made a free throw and Madison hit one of two from the line. Palmer followed with a layup and Toney made two free throws.
Luke Bridges came in off the Scots bench to put in two free throws and made a short jumper for a 71-47 Lyon lead.
Jaaron Harriott got his first two points of the game on two free throws and
Isaiah Sweetwine scored four straight points for the Scots to give them a 25-point lead with 3:21 to go, 77-52.
Bridges added another free throw and
Gavin Brunson got his first basket of the season on a driving layup to make it 82-55. Sweetwine ended the scoring with a layup off of a fast-break with 40 seconds remaining.
