Lyon men's basketball tumbles to 10-point loss at Huntingdon College

MONTGOMERY, Alabama - The Lyon College men's basketball season-opener didn't exactly go as planned against the Huntingdon College Hawks on Wednesday night in Montgomery, Alabama.

Kylon McCullough led the Scots (0-1) with 26 points, while Nikola SaSaroga added 13 points and eight rebounds and John Paul Morgan scored 10 points to go with six boards. 

Early in the game, SaSaroga put in a short jumper, then McCullough got a tip in off a miss on Jones White's jumper to give Lyon College one of its only leads of the game, 4-3. With Huntingdon College in front by two, McCullough added a free throw and seconds later SaSaroga scored to tie it at 7-7. A few more seconds later, SaSaroga added two more free throw for a 9-8 Scots' lead with 17:37 left in the first half. 
The Hawks scored the next six points before McCullough canned a jumper from short range. Huntingdon added a three-pointer  to go up by six again, but another made jump shot from McCullough and a three-pointer from him off an assist from SaSaroga cut the Hawks lead to 17-16 at the 16:09 mark. 
Morgan scored inside to keep Lyon within one point, then added two free throws a minute later to make it 23-20. Jumpers from SaSaroga and Frank Toney got the Scots to within two 26-24 with 13:45 to go in the first half, but Huntingdon scored the next five points before Malik Madison put in his first shot of the game to make it 31-26. Donovynn Lewis made a three-pointer for the Scots to close the gap to two points, but the Hawks came back to score five straight points. Huntingdon College went on a run and ended up leading 46-31 at halftime. 
Lyon College outscored the Hawks 46-41 in the second half. 
Lewis hit another jumper and McCullough ,Trent Bell put in two free throws for the Scots and SaSaroga scored again and McCullough made a jumper. Lewis had a free throw, Toney hit a jump shot and Jones White made a three-pointer. Morgan made two shots in a row for the Scots, then a free throw from SaSaroga and a three-pointer from McCullough got Lyon College within single digits. 
Toney had a jump shot fall, Bell connected one free throw and McCullough made another three-pointer. SaSarogra made a shot to close the gap to four points with 3:20 to go in the game, 69-63 and with just over two minutes to play, Toney made two free throws to keep the margin at four points. Huntingdon went on a  7-0  run and led 78-67 with 1:30 to play. Jarron Harriott scored for Lyon, but the Hawks upped their lead to 11 points 80-69 with 1:03 left. 
McCullough hit a three-pointer off a fast break and Morgan made two free throws at the 36 second mark, but Huntingdon scored three points at the free throw line. McCullough made another three-pointer to close the lead to six points, but the Hawks finished the game with the next five points.
