BATESVILLE, Arkansas - The Lyon College Scots men's soccer team stayed in contention for the SLIAC regular season crown with Fontbonne, by defeating the Mississippi University for Women Owls 4-0 on Thursday afternoon at Marshall Huser Field.

The Scots (8-4-1, 5-1-1) got a goal from martin Esquivel in the first 2:12 of the match on an assist by Erik Oliveria. In the second half, Andrei Galca scored on an assist from Thomas Biasi. The Scots third goal came from Filipe Santana de Oliveria on an assist from Esquivel and Taylor Prater scored in the last seven minutes of the game on an assist from Gustavo Giesbrecht.

A shot by Galca in the first 1:26 was saved, but Esquivel got his goal-kick to the net for a 1-0 lead.  Another shot by Esquivel was saved, Ronaldo Jacob had a shot saved. A shot by Oliveria was saved at the bottom left of the net, then Oliveria missed a shot over the top. De Oliveria missed a shot over the top ended most of the offensive attacks by the Scots in the first half.

Lyon got its second score when Biasi found Galca open for a scoring kick and a 2-0 lead just 31 seconds into second period. Lyon's third goal happened at the 57:08 mark of the second period when Esquivel passed to de Oliveria for a netted kick. 

Jackson Harrod and Rafael Campos had shots on goal that were saved, then at the 83:42 mark of the second period Prater got an assist from Giesbrecht to make it a 4-0 Scots lead. Cristian Cruz and Prater took two more shots on goal before the end of the match.
