EUREKA, Illinois - The Lyon College Scots men's soccer team defeated Eureka College 4-0 on Saturday to keep a hold of second place in the SLIAC standings.
The Scots (7-4-1, 4-1-1) scored two goals in the first half and added two more in the second period to walk away with the shutout victory.Â
Andrei Galca got the first goal for the Scots at the 9:23 mark of the first half on an assist by Erik Oliveria. Then just before the end of the first period,
Matheus Nunes got a goal on an assist by
Martin Esquivel for the Scots for a 2-0 lead.
Galca got his second goal at the 50:19 mark of the second half and Galca scored the hat-trick with his third goal at the 65:18 mark of the second period to lead 4-0.
For the game, Lyon took 12 shots, six on-goal kicks and six other shots.
Aidan McGeown and
Martin Esquivel both had one shot at the goal, Galca had six shots and netted three, Thomas Biasi had one shot on goal, Oliveria had a shot on-goal, and Nunes put his shot off an assist from Esquivel into the net. Filipe Santana de Oliveria had two shots and one on-goal kick.Â
The Scots used two goalies in the contest.
Gabriel Rangel had four saves and
Lance Scudder had two saves.
Lyon started off with two fouls, but finally Galca got his first shot to go in for a 1-0 lead. Biasi shot was saved, then a shot by Filipe de Oliveria was saved and Galca missed just wide right. Galca missed again right, then Nunes connected on his goal for a 2-0 Scots lead of a perfect pass from Esquivel. Santana de Oliveria had a shot on goal miss high, then Galca kicked in his second goal for a 3-0 advantage.
Esquivel got a shot and McGeown missed left. Galca had another shot over the top, but hit his third goal of the game a few minutes later into the net for a 4-0 Lyon College lead.Â
