Lyon women's soccer ties Blackburn College 2-2 in SLIAC action

CARLINVILLE, Illinois - The Lyon College women's soccer Scots battled to a 2-2 tie with Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois on Thursday afternoon in SLIAC action.

The Scots (3-8-1, 0-5-1) trailed 2-1 before scoring the tying goal late in the second half. Alli Mead scored Lyon's first goal 13:21 into the first period on a penalty kick to tie the match 1-1. Blackburn scored again five minutes later to go up by goal, but in the second half, Taylor Hammons booted in the tying goal at the 68:44 mark.

Hammons had the first shot of the game that was saved in the first minute and half. However, Blackburn scored its first goal a few minutes later. A corner kick from Katelyn Balderas resulted in a penalty kick for Mead, who netted the ball to tie the game with 13:21 gone in the first period.

Hammons got off another shot, but like before, Blackburn came back to score at the 18 minute mark. The Scots kept battling with Hammons getting a corner kick to Balderas who hit a shot wide right. Jessica Steele got off a shot 30 seconds later that was also wide right and her second try was blocked. Hannah Young got a shot off for Lyon, then Hammons and Steele both kick goal sots that were saved. 

Steele began the second period for Lyon with a shot on goal that was saved, then Bella Behus had her shot blocked. Hammons got her goal to go in at the 68:44 mark of the second half to tie the game 2-2. Lyon upped their game with Behus getting a shot that was wide left, Balderas got one off that was also wide left and Steele's shot was saved. Addy Lovell kicked a shot wide left in the final eight minutes and another shot from Steele hit the crossbar. Hammons had a shot with less than two minutes to go that was saved.
 
It was the first tie for Lyon College this season.

For the match, Steele had six shots, of which two were on-goal. Mead's only shot was a goal, Balderas had two shots, Hammons had five shots all on-goal with one finding the net. Lovell had one shot, Nehus had two shots and Young had one. 

Zone Papzoglou played the entire 90 minutes, Maggie McCollum played 57 minutes, Ashlyn Winters got in 32 minutes, Aisha Mahmound played 90 minutes, Alexis Whitley got 76 minutes in and Natalie Wyatt played for 46 minutes. Overall, Lyon College had 18 shots and eight on-goal kicks with two goals.
