Scots women's soccer gets 7-0 win over Eureka College in SLIAC road match

EUREKA, Illinois - Jessica Steele got a hat trick for the Lyon College women's soccer team in a 7-0 win at Eureka College on Saturday afternoon.

The Scots (3-8-1, 1-5-1) got three goals in the first half and added four in the second for their largest win in the SLIAC this season.

Lyon started off with a shot by Steele in the first 37 seconds of the game, which resulted in a corner kick that was taken by Aisha Mahmoud, who kicked it on-goal, but it was saved. A shot by Katelyn Balderas was saved and a shot by Addy Lovell was saved. Mahmoud got off another on-goal kick that was also saved and Alli Mead got a shot that was also saved all in the first 10 minutes of the match.

Lovell had another shot go high and Steele took a shot on-goal. Mead had another shot on-goal saved and Balderas had her shot saved on the left side. A shot by Ashlyn Winters was wide right, but Steele got her first goal at the 18:18 mark for a 1-0 lead for Lyon College. Lovell, Taylor Hammons, Mahmoud and Balderas all had on-goal shots that were saved, but eventually Mead got her shot to go in at the 26 minute mark of the first half for a 2-0 advantage.

Hannah Young had a shot saved and Steele missed over the goal and another on-goal kick saved. At the 32:52 mark, Steele finally got her second goal of the contest for a 3-0 Lyon College lead. More shots from the Scots by Hammons, Bella Nehus and Steele were either saved or just missed. Lovell, Winters and Hammons added more shots on goal in the next five minutes and Winters had a shot saved, then Winters had a shot saved. Mead's and Young's shots were also saved as the before the end of the first half.

Steele, Balderas and Mahmoud has shots in the first five minutes of the second period. That was followed by a barrage of shots from Hammons, Steele, Balderas, Zoe Papazoglou, Winters and Steele. All of those shots were saved by the Eureka College goalkeeper. After Natalie Wyatt entered the game, Mahmoud and Winters had shots saved before Balderas got a shot into the net for a 4-0 Lyon College lead.

Papazoglou got her first goal of the season at the 67:29 mark of the second half to make it a 5-0 advantage. Then shots from Hammons, Wyatt, Mahmoud and another by Wyatt were all saved. Steele got her hat trick when she netted a goal at the 74 minute mark for a 6-0 lead. 

Balderas and Young had shots saved, then shots by Steele and Balderas were saved. Three straight shots from Hammons were saved and Lovell added a shot that was saved in that five-minute melee'. Finally, Balderas got a shot to go in, her second of the contest, to give the Scots a 7-0 lead with two seconds left.
