BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots women's basketball team dropped an American Midwest Conference game against the Cottey College Comets, 74-65 on Thursday night at Becknell Gymnasium.
The Scots (7-8, 6-5) were led by
Allison Byars with 25 points.
Paige Tate scored 12,
Natalya Kaza had 10 points and
Kristen Baham scored nine for Lyon.Â
The Scots shot 10.53 percent on field goals in the first quarter (2-of-19) and ended the game shooting 36.5 percent. Lyon College made 2-of-19 three-pointers and went 17-of-28 from the free throw line. Twenty-two points for the Scots came off of Cottey turnovers, 14 points came from second-chance and 12 points were scored by the bench.

A free throw from Byars and a jumper from Tate were the only points for the Scots, who trailed 13-3, until 1:30 left to go in the quarter.
Mari-Hanna Newsom made a three-pointer, but Cottey led 18-6 after the period ended.Â
Kaza hit two jumpers in a row and Byars made two free throws to cut the Comets lead to six points, 18-12. Cottey was up 22-13 when Byars made a layup and Kaza hit two free throws. Baham made a jumper, but Cottey led 30-21. The Scots put together a short run with Tate, Baham and Kaza all scoring to cut the lead down to five points, but the Comets got a layup at the buzzer to lead 36-27 at halftime.
Byars made two more free throws and Tate completed a three-point play and Byars hit a jumper to make it a 38-34 contest. Baham scored again for Lyon, but Cottey raced out to a 49-36 lead with 3:40 to go in the third quarter.
Savanna Lopez put in a basket and
Kayla Richardson scored. Byars and Tate closed out the scoring in the period for Lyon, who trailed 55-44 after three quarters.
Richardson scored, Byars made a three-pointer, made a layup and hit a free throw to cut the Cottey lead to seven points. 59-52. The Comets led by 11 points when Byars completed a three-point play and hit a jumper, but with two minutes to play, Cottey led by 10 points, 68-58.
