Allison Byars scored 22 points and
Savanna Lopez added 18 to lead the Lyon College Scots over the William Woods Owls 67-59 in American Midwest Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Anderson Arena in Fulton, Missouri.
The Scots (7-7, 6-4) led 12-10, 33-25 and 54-40 in three quarters. William Woods (5-12, 3-7) outscored Lyon 19-13 in the fourth quarter.
The Scots scored 40 points in the paint, got 22 points off of turnovers, 16 second chance points, eight fast break points and 25 points came from the bench. The score was tied twice and Lyon's largest lead was 15 points with 3:15 to go in the third quarter.
Paige Tate tied the game at 4-4 early on and Lopez put the Scots in front with three consecutive jumpers 12-7. William Woods made a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead to two points.
The game was tied 12-12 when Byars and
Natalya Kaza scored in order for Lyon College. Byars completed a three-point play and Lopez hit a jumper as the Owls closed to within two points, 23-21. Lopez scored two baskets in a row,
Ashley Jones put in a layup off a fast break, Kaza sank two free throws and
Erin Haigwood hit a shot for a 33-25 halftime lead.Â
Tate scored the first basket of the third quarter, Byars added two free throws and a layup. Tate scored again, Kaza made a layup and Lopez put in two more baskets for a 49-34 Scots lead. Byars completed another three-point play for a 14-point Lyon advantage.
Haigwood made a three-pointer, Byars made two free throws,
Mari-Hanna Newsom made a three-pointer and Kaza scored to keep the Scots lead at nine points with 2:39 to go, 63-55. Free throws from Byars and
Kristen Baham stopped the Owls rally.
