Scots rally falls one-point short at William Woods

FULTON, Mo. - Trenton Bell scored 24 points and Israel Palmer had 21 in a 73-72 American Midwest Conference loss at William Woods on Saturday afternoon.

William Woods (8-9, 2-5) led Lyon 34-23 at halftime, but the Scots (5-9, 2-6) rallied in the second half, outscoring the Owls 49-39, getting as close as one point on a last-second half-court three-pointer from Nikola SaSaroga, who finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. 

John Paul Morgan, who had 10 rebounds and six points for the Scots, scored and Bell made three jumpers to stay close to William Woods early on, 14-9. SaSaroga scored twice, but the Owls built a 28-13 lead. Palmer made a three-pointer and Bella added two free throws to end the first half with the Scots down by 11 points.

Lyon College trailed by as much as 19 points three different times early in the second half. With 14:38 to go, William Woods led 50-31. That's when the Scots comeback started. Palmer made a three-pointer, Luke Bridges scored in the paint, Bell made two free throws, then he made a three-pointer to make it 52-41.
SaSaroga scored and Palmer hit another three-pointer and Bell made two free throws to get the lead down to five points. Over the next three minutes, the Scots cut the Owls lead down to five points. With 2:53 to go, William Woods led 67-62 and the Owls made it a nine-point game a minute later. Palmer made a jumper for Lyon, Bell made a three-pointer and Morgan hit two free throws with four seconds left to make it a 71-69 game. After a quick Scots foul, the Owls made two free throws and on the final inbounds play from Lyon, SaSaroga hit a 3-pointer from half-court.
