COLUMBIA, Missouri - The Lyon College softball Scots are still alive in the American Midwest Conference tournament in Columbia, Missouri on Tuesday night.
After losing their first game, the Scots (13-23) defeated the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics 9-4 to advance to the 2:30 p.m. game against the loser of Columbia and Hannibal-LaGrange.
Against the Eutectics, the Scots scored six times in the second inning after putting up a run in the bottom of the first. In the first,
Addison Harmon singled and stole second base (91 career stolen bases tops Lyon College records). Megan Englehardt lined out to advance Harmon to third base and
Kassidy Robinson hit a sacrifice grounder to score Harmon for a 1-0 lead.
In the second inning,
Jasmine Carlos led off with a double off the center field fence. With one out,
Emily Martinez doubled to the center field fence to score Carlos,
Melanie Mooney walked and Harmon walked. Englehardt singled to center to score Martinez and Mooney. Robinson legged out an infield single that loaded the bases and set up a single from
Mary Duffield that scored Englehardt and Harmon.
Celsey Wood hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Robinson to make it a 7-0 Lyon College lead.
In the sixth inning, Martinez singled to center to score Carlos and Duffield for a 9-2 lead.
Alyssa Buentello picked up the win for the Scots on the mound and
McKenzie Campbell got the save.
