BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Lyon College Scots softball team took an early lead in the first game against the third-ranked Freed-Hardeman Lions on Saturday afternoon at House Field in Batesville, but ultimately lost to 12-3 and were shutout int the second game 7-0.
The Scots (5-19) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when
Sarah Jo Guerrero doubled to left field to score Melonie Mooney and
Emily Martinez.
The Lions came back to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the third inning, but Lyon College got a run back in the bottom of the third when
Jasmine Carlos hit a sacrifice grounder to score
Addison Harmon and cut the Freed-Hardeman lead to 4-3.
The Lions scored three more runs in the top of the fourth and put the game away in the top of the sixth inning with a five-run rally to go up 12-3.Â
Megan Englehardt, Harmon,
Celsey Wood, Martinez, Mooney and Guerrero all had hits for the Scots in the game.
In the second half of the double-header, the Scots only got one hit, a grounder to left field from Harmon in a 7-0 shutout loss.Â
The Scots will be in action again next week.
