Lyon College Softball sweeps AMC double-header at Williams Baptist

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Lyon College softball Scots won an American Midwest Conference double-header on Tuesday afternoon at Williams Baptist, 8-6 in eight innings and 6-4 in the second game to improve to 7-19 overall and 7-5 in the league.

Williams Baptist had a 2-0 lead in the first game when Celsey Wood doubled to right field to bring in Megan Englehardt and Addison Harmon and tie the game 2-2. 

WIlliams Baptist led 5-2 after five innings, but in the top of the sixth, Lyon College fought back to take the lead. Melanie Mooney singled to left field to score Georgia Holzer, then Harmon doubled to right field to bring in Mooney, Kassidy Robinson and Englehardt and give the Scots a 6-5 lead.

Williams Baptist tied the game by getting a runner walked in with the base loaded and two outs. 

In the top of the eighth inning with the score tied 6-6, Harmon doubled to center field to score Englehart and Mooney for an 8-6 lead. 

McKenzie Campbell was the winning pitcher for the Scots and Alyssa Buentello picked up the save. 

In the second game, Wood grounded out to second base to bring in Harmon for a 1-0 Lyon College lead in the top of the first inning.

Wood doubled to center field in the top of the third inning to score Harmon for a 2-1 lead, then Holzer doubled to right field to score Wood to put the Scots up by two runs. 

Williams Baptist came back to tie the game in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, but in the top of the fifth, Jasmine Carlos singled to left field to score Englehardt, Holzer hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring in Harmon and Emily Martinez hit a sacrifice grounder to bring in Wood for a 6-3 lead. 

Campbell got the win for the Scots and Emily Engles got the save.
